With a desire to alleviate some of the stress and provide trustworthy resources after a veterinary team suicide, national veterinary professional organizations created the After a Suicide: A Guide for Veterinary Workplaces.

The Guide provides tools for postvention, a term used to describe activities to help people cope with the emotional distress resulting from a suicide to prevent additional trauma and any potential for suicide contagion. The resource delivers managers and leaders within veterinary workplaces an outline to follow in a way to prevent further suicidal behavior and deaths, especially among people who ay be at elevated risk for suicide.

This guide was created by The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) in partnership with Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA), Veterinary Medical Association Executives (VMAE), and NAVTA.
