Leadership is vitally important for any profession. Having a NAVTA Student Chapter (SCNAVTA) at your school will enable your students to experience the responsibilities that go along with being a member of a profession along with a professional organization. These responsibilities include planning activities that promote veterinary technology, giving back to the community through volunteer efforts, holding an elected office, following a constitution and setting a budget. Involvement in these activities while in school fosters the development of leaders within the profession.

We understand that many advisors will have questions when forming a new chapter and throughout the year - so we have created a FAQ sheet to help answer some of the most common questions we receive.

SCNAVTA chapter annual dues are calculated using a student:dues ratio which is divided into the following levels:

* $150 (under 50 students)

* $200 (51-200)

* $400 (>200)

This fee includes NAVTA membership dues for one graduate and/or credentialed veterinary technician who will serve as the Chapter's advisor. Additionally, this fee will include a NAVTA student membership for each student that is an active member of his or her student SCNAVTA chapter. This exciting change will allow each student member to receive NAVTA perks like online members only access, new bulletin boards and an online list-service that will assist with networking and interaction and our quarterly publication, The NAVTA Journal. Also included will be special promotional materials for National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW).

NAVTA will still offer $35 student memberships for students that attend schools that do not have a SCNAVTA chapter. More information on the SCNAVTA program can be obtained by contacting the NAVTA office at

Each year, NAVTA awards the SCNAVTA Chapter of the Year and Advisor of the Year. Nominations are due October 1st, and winners are announced at the North American Veterinary Conference in Orlando, held every January.
