NAVTA’s Statement of Support

Veterinary medicine is a unique field that allows us to work with a diverse group of people. Veterinary professionals are trusted by the public with the health of their pets; we are trained to listen, empathize, and to stand up and advocate for them. We took an oath to dedicate ourselves to society, not just animals, and to promote public health. We are obligated to do this conscientiously and with sensitivity.

The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America recognizes and stands in solidarity with our colleagues during these trying times. NAVTA acknowledges the long history of injustice towards black communities and communities of color.  We recognize this fight is not just about what is happening right now but about a long and sad legacy that must end. The senseless killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other victims of hate, is unacceptable and appalling.

At NAVTA, we strive to be a unifying voice for the veterinary technician profession and to provide a platform for all voices to be heard.  We urge all NAVTA members and non-members to support and advocate for our black colleagues and stop racism.

Silence is violence. We must speak for those whose voices have been silenced, or those who have been struggling to be heard.  We commit to working to create a world that is peaceful, compassionate, and equitable to everyone.  A world where justice prevails.

NAVTA rejects any form of racism and prejudice.
