Zoetis and NAVTA team up to create fun and engaging ways for veterinary nurses to learn

August 27, 2017, Albert Lea, MN – The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) and Zoetis have entered a joint partnership to provide an exciting educational opportunity for the veterinary nursing community. Zoetis and NAVTA have launched two new online interactive CE courses focusing on canine noise aversion.

Canine noise aversion is a serious animal welfare issue that can impact the human-animal bond. Many owners can see that their dogs overreact to noise but often do not recognize that the associated behaviors may be a demonstration of fear and anxiety. Understanding what noise aversion is and its effects on the dog and the owner can be essential to repairing that bond.

Noise Aversion 101, the first CE course in the series, covers the triggers, signs, prevalence and treatment modalities of noise aversion. The second course, Noise Aversion: The Veterinary Nurse’s Role, focuses on the veterinary nurse’s role in recognizing the signs of noise aversion and helping pet owners understand the consequences. In addition, this course identifies management opportunities available to those who are interested in learning more about noise aversion. With a better understanding of noise aversion, veterinary nurses will be empowered to initiate conversations with, and educate pet owners about, awareness of the condition. These conversations will help identify and treat more dogs suffering from noise aversion.

Easy-to-use tools — such as roleplay scripts and worksheets — are provided in combination with the courses. These tools can be downloaded and used in the clinic to help get the entire veterinary team on board.

The CE modules will be hosted on NAVTA’s new CE portal, which will track and save users’ progress, allowing veterinary nurses to take the courses at their own pace. The courses are designed to be highly interactive to keep users engaged in the content and promote information retention.

This is just the beginning of our partnership between NAVTA and Zoetis, with more educational opportunities to come! Working together, we hope to help fill the gap in education and highlight the many opportunities available to veterinary nurses to further their careers.
