NAVTA Veterinary Technician Leadership Symposium 2017

Welcome to the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) Leadership Workshop. The field of veterinary technology has evolved over the course of decades. We are presented with an opportunity, if not a requirement, for the profession to strengthen and organize our activity to pursue profession wide goals. This Leadership Workshop is hosted by NAVTA, focused on providing resources to develop solid national and regional leadership within organizations, and refine visions for the future.

Veterinary technicians involved in the leadership and advocacy of professional organizations are invited to attend the Leadership Summit hosted by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA). Board of directors and key members of veterinary technician associations and Veterinary Technician Specialist academies are invited to attend!

Please join us for the NAVTA Leadership Summit on Friday July 21, 2017 being held in conjunction with the AVMA convention in Indianapolis, Indiana

Featured Presentation: “Leadership and Influence- Strategies for Amazing Organizational Performance” by Dr. Betsy Charles

Dr. Charles has presented in numerous venues nationwide, and is bringing her formula for leadership success to the NAVTA Leadership Summit.

Summit participants will discuss the meaning of influence and purpose in veterinary medicine and explore the vast influence individuals can have, regardless of position. Participants will collaborate to discover ways to bring effective and immediate, leadership skills back to the professional workplace.

Learning Objectives:

  • Leadership theories and applications to veterinary medicine
  • The relationship between leadership and influence
  • How to understand leadership barriers
  • Applying the concepts of effective leadership and behaviors to real-life scenarios.

Luncheon with Dr. Marty Becker - Why Fear Free is a Practice Imperative

Fear Free is simply having a pet “physical well-being” in one hand and their “emotional well-being” in the other. Pets aren’t coming in as often as they were, and should be. Why? You can blame it on “Dr. Google” and do nothing, or you can understand the real reasons and make the necessary changes. Pet-owners whose pets are terrified of a veterinary visit won’t bring them in for anything but the worst, forcing you to miss out on essential well-pet care that improves and extends a high quality of life for the pet and the owner. Creating Fear Free veterinary visits is a simple, straightforward way to ease the stress and turn both pet and pet-owner into relaxed, happy, repeat visitors. By taking the “pet” out of “petrified,” you put pets back into practices.

NAVTA Veterinary Technician Leaders Meeting

A Veterinary Technician Leadership meeting will follow the workshop, providing attendees with updates of NAVTA activity on topics such as the national credential initiative, veterinary technician specialty, and state association support. The workshop provides attendees an opportunity to share experiences of successes and challenges in being leaders, and allowing opportunities to forge new relationships, promoting collaboration across the nation. The one day summit will provide a place to discuss real issues and take steps towards better leadership with the aid of experts and colleagues.

Meeting Topics:

  • State of Veterinary Technology - A NAVTA Update
