Program Description:

The Art of Triage: Everyday emergency essentials for the technician - Bridget MacDonald CVT, VTS(ECC)

A systems based review on what really matters and how to stay focused when assessing the emergency patient. 

CPR Essentials - Be prepared for the unexpected arresting patient - Brittany Betancourt CVT, VTS(ECC)

This one-hour lecture will be focused around the RECOVER guidelines and how to be more prepared for a critical emergency. ECG, drug administration and technique will be covered.

Let's Mix Some Cocktails...From Pre-med to Recovery - Amy Dowling CVT, VTS (Anesthesia)

This talk will focus on the anesthesia patient that we all stress dealing with, from brachycephalics to heart disease patients and aggressive dogs or grumpy cats. VSEC’s VTS in Anesthesia will cover the premedication period and then cover the recovery period and different ways that help smooth the transition.  

Pet Loss & Grief Management Techniques - Carol Fitzpatrick CVT, VTS(Cardiology), ACC

Have you ever wondered what to say when faced with a client who has lost their beloved pet? If so, you are not alone. Successfully navigating this challenging territory is crucial to the perception of your practice and influences a client’s willingness to return in the future for care.

Food for Thought - Heather Berst, DVM

This one hour talk will take attendees through the finer points of general pet nutrition and how to best communicate nutritional needs to pet-parents. Based on the AAHA nutritional guidelines, Dr. Berst will cover best practices on helping clients to read and understand a pet food label, commonly asked questions about pet foods and new information in pet nutrition.

VTS Roundtable: Take your career further, become a VTS!

Join us over the lunch break to find out more about becoming a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS). Becoming a VTS is within the reach of every certified veterinary technician and in this introduction to the process; you will have a chance to meet all of the speakers from today who "have all achieved this milestone in their careers. You will learn about the VTS certification process, the different specialties currently available and to ask any question you may have about the processes.

These programs have been submitted but not yet approved for 5 hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE approval; however participants should be aware that some boards have limitations on the number of hours accepted in certain categories and/or restrictions on certain methods of delivery of continuing education.
