Behavioral Styles:  Understanding Yourself and Others.  Each person in a work environment has differing behavioral styles.  Some people may be dominant and fast-paced, others may be detail-oriented and slower-paced, and some may be more sensitive, social or people-focused.  Team members tend to judge others in the workplace who are different from themselves rather than recognizing and valuing the differences each behavioral style brings to the team.  Using DiSC® Workplace as a model, participants will learn about their own style, learn how to recognize the styles of other people and learn how to better manage conflict.  They will also gain insight on how others interpret their behavior and learn how to adapt to other communication styles.

 

Generational Differences:  How to Work Better Together.  You already know that Millennials outnumber Baby Boomers and are the dominant generation in our workforce. But do you know how to better work with older generations and Gen Z, the oldest of which turned 22 in 2018? Four generations are currently in the workplace and each has different values, causing communication challenges and conflicts.  This session will help you understand other generations better in a fun and productive way leaving you with new ideas and strategies to make you successful at work.

 

How to Lead and Influence Others.  The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority.  With today’s rapidly evolving workplace, strong leaders must work harder than ever to influence and engage others.  Learn some tough truths about leadership that we don’t talk about.  We’ll also share techniques to help you build trust, overcome impostor syndrome and listen better. This session will show you how to emulate rituals of enormously successful humans and create a positive ripple effect every day at work and in your personal life.

 

Wag More, Bark Less:  Finding Happiness at Home and at Work.  Research shows that a positive outlook leads to 31% higher productivity, 25% better performance ratings, 23% less stress and a 37% increase in sales.  Studies show that expressing a positive attitude improves engagement, intelligence, energy and profitability.  Do you have a “Negative Norm” or “Pessimistic Patty” in your office?  Learn ways to handle negative people and increase happiness for your entire work team.  This enlightening session will provide you with techniques for creating more personal happiness, as well as ideas for creating a happier, more fun work place. 

 

Making Body Language Your SuperpowerDid you know that 93% of communication does not come from the words you say to your coworkers and clients?  Communication begins before you even open your mouth!  In a research study at Tufts University, they discovered that when people watch 30-second soundless clips of real physician-patient interactions, their judgments of the physician’s niceness predict whether or not that physician will be sued.  Body language is important!  This presentation will help you learn how to build rapport with your team and clients, gain confidence, know when someone's lying, gain power in a situation, improve your own body language and interpret other people's body language. 

 

Brain Training and Neuroscience:  Out With the Negative Mojo! - Studies show that every business outcome shows improvement when the brain is positive but most team members aren’t sure how to be more positive.  Many have a tendency to overthink things or make knee-jerk decision.  Participants will learn to get out of their reptilian brain, determine their triggers and develop strategies they can use to create rituals that will make them happier, healthier and more productive at work.  Participants will also learn ways to tame the procrastination monster and reduce the stress hormone cortisol which will improve their thinking and productivity at work and at home.

Karlene’s passion is speaking to groups about how to improve communications in the workplace. She is a certified Everything DiSC® Trainer and presents sessions on behavioral styles, generational differences, body language, leadership, wellness, brain training and work/life integration. Karlene focuses on how to work together more effectively through understanding and appreciating the differences in people, while working to improve communications, team building, customer service and conflict resolution. 

 

Karlene has been the CEO of the Michigan VMA since 2003 and has more than 30 years of experience in association management. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunications from Michigan State University so she can cheer for whoever is winning. She speaks to a wide variety of groups nationally including AAHA (speaks at all their Indispensable Association workshops around the country), AVMA and numerous state VMAs.  For fun, she sings and plays keyboards for a band called Rendezvous and for Rear View Mirror.
