Title: Diversity, Inclusion, and Conflict Management – It Takes a Village by Dr. Kenita Rogers

Description:

Life is complicated.  We face many daily challenges in both our work and personal lives.  How we approach these challenges has a dramatic impact on interpersonal relationships, work productivity, and the success of our organizations.   Creating an inclusive work environment, understanding the value of diversity, and having the confidence to manage conflict can be powerful allies in ensuring that we are important contributors to a healthy workplace and a growing organization.

The morning workshop session will focus on developing a common language about the importance of diversity, inclusion, and workplace climate, and will include topics such as bias, privilege, equality vs. equity, marginalized groups, microaggressions, and the silent bystander effect.  All of these topics will be addressed in the context of our clients, colleagues, and professional organizations.  The session will include information delivery, as well as reflective, experiential learning activities.

The afternoon workshop session will focus on conflict management with particular emphasis on how to remain professional while facilitating difficult dialogues.  NAVTA is currently addressing a number of difficult “hot” topics; how leaders engage in these dialogues will be critical to a successful outcome for the organization.  This session will include content delivery, role modeling of professional communication behaviors, and small group work, with the overall goal of increasing each participants comfort with being fully immersed in these important initiatives within the organization.

In addition to Dr. Rogers' session, NAVTA leaders will present an update and host discussions on current NAVTA activities.
