Ideas for NVTW Activities and Projects

Have veterinary technicians honored through a proclamation by a politician at the city or state level. Proclamation procedures can be obtained from your mayor or governor. Work with the state veterinary technician association to accomplish this at the state level. Most proclamation procedures have to be requested yearly.

The NVTW poster should be located in a place of high traffic - clinic lobby, shopping mall, public schools, library, humane society, etc. This poster is sent to our members in the Summer issue of "The NAVTA Journal."

Displays of materials related to the veterinary technology profession can be set up in all of the above mentioned areas.

Invitations to all NVTW events should be sent to television, radio, and newspapers. Use the sample press release and public service announcement that can be downloaded by clicking on the button marked Download at the top of this page.

Volunteer to visit School rooms, humane societies, service clubs and other groups, this provide an opportunity to speak on veterinary technology to a variety of individuals.

Veterinary Technician Association meetings currently scheduled in the fall could be built around NVTW.

A lunch or dinner banquet sponsored during NVTW can be a memorable event. The banquet would provide an ideal setting to present awards to veterinary technicians who have made outstanding contributions or achievements during the year.

Open House at your clinic or hospital will increase the public' s awareness of the role you provide in their pet' s care.

A community event such as a, "Pooch Parade," or "Animal Walk" will provide the public a fun way to get involved with NVTW. Remember if it is a fund-raising event the key is to choose a charity that is well thought of and the public cares about.

Send press releases about the week to local and state newspapers. For better exposure, include pictures of veterinary technicians or students "in action." A sample press release can be downloaded by clicking on the button marked Download at the top of this page. Feel free to copy it and then make the necessary changes for distribution in your area.
