The Value of Animals in Children' s
Lives - A Veterinary Professional Opportunity
For many of us
who chose a career as a veterinarian or a veterinary technician,
our choice stemmed from childhood interaction and love of animals
and our interest in the mystery of biology. For those of us
who were fortunate enough to have parents, neighbors or a teacher
introduce us to the magic of animal life, we were blessed by
the friendship and companionship offered by a pet animal. Understanding
animal interaction is truly a grace-filled blessing that stays
with us and provides comfort and joy throughout our lives.
There are many misconceptions about pet animal care and
risks in homes and classrooms. All veterinary professionals
can make significant contributions working with pet owners,
teachers and animals, ensuring humane care and providing
safe child-animal bonds. I encourage VTAs VMAs and individuals
to email me at jlpitts@olympus.net if you would like to provide
or collaborate at your 2005 or 2006 state or regional meeting.
